The Mugen Tenshin shinobi weilding bows in Dead Fantasy V.

The Bow and Arrow is a type of projectile weapon system used by shinobi of the Mugen Tenshin Clan in Dead Fantasy V. In a preview of Dead Fantasy VIII, Momiji is also seen using a bow and arrow against Kairi as Namine.

BackgroundEdit

A bow is a flexible arc that shoots aerodynamic projectiles (arrows or quarrels, sometimes stones) by means of elastic energy. Essentially, the bow is a form of spring powered by a string or cord. As this string is drawn, energy is stored in the flexible limbs of the bow; the energy is transferred to the arrow when the string is released, projecting it much farther than a weapon could be thrown.

Its history of a weapon of warfare predates recorded history and is common to most cultures, however the development of gunpowder and muskets led to their replacement in warfare several centuries ago in much of the world. Today, bows and arrows are used primarily for hunting and for sport.

In Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, bows and arrows are used by shinobi, including those of the Mugen Teshin Clan and the Hayabusa Clan, who are known for their use of more traditional weaponry.

Use in Dead FantasyEdit

During the clan's assult on Tifa Lockhart in the Warehouse, after they failed to take the woman down with head-on attacks, a number of shinobi acted as archers from a upper platform and sent a hail of arrows down upon her. While Tifa managed to deflect and dodge the arrows at first, she wasn't fast enough and was implied by many of the projectiles, including through the chest and stomach. This managed to keep Tifa down for a while but she was still alive after the attack, however the wounds still help lead to her eventual collapse.

The bows used by the Mugen Tenshin shinobi in Dead Fantasy appear to be a decrative skeletal design made from silver metal arc and white cord. The arrows have a black shaft with fletching made from white feather, and a thin black head. The heads are sharp enough to piece all the way through a human body, allowing most of the arrow to enter the body without most resistance.

In a preview of Dead Fantasy VIII, Momiji is later seen using her Heavensong Bow against Namine which she shoots explosive arrows towards her but dodges as she can able to destroy a single building in one shot. Her bow appears as a red and black design with a black cord. Her explosive arrows appear as dark crimson in color which is seen as her projectiles against her enemies.
